Sarabande

Description

Carl Bohm’s highly stylized Sarabande in G minor for violin has been arranged for string orchestra. All parts have been written with equal importance given to melodic interplay. The lovely contrasting middle section allows the viola and third violin parts to shine. First violins have limited third position passages. Measure 98 in the first violin part has been enharmonicly spelled to help students read more quickly while playing in third position. The instructor might want to compare measures 98 and 48 with students for teaching the meaning of enharmonic. The cello and bass sections have limited position work that facilitates playing in G minor. Fingerings have been added to provide a reference for the Director. The symbol “-1” indicates a backward extension. Optional third violin and piano parts have been included.
