Description

This arrangement can be performed by a string quartet, quintet, or string orchestra. Optional third violin and piano parts have been included. Although all parts are written in first position, fingerings for half position have been included to help facilitate passage work for the violins and violas. Half position for the first violin begins with the pick up note to measure 41 through measure 43, and measure 56. Second violin has half position in measures 54, 55, and measure 65 through measure 70. Half position for viola and third violin begins in measure 32 through measure 38. The melodic motif should be played using the lower half of the bow. Notes marked with a “” should be played spiccato. Fingerings have been added to provide a reference for the Director. The symbol “-1” indicates a backward extension with the first finger. For added instructional benefits, consider moving the first violins into third position in measure 21 through measure 30, and again with the pick up note to measure 88 through measure 101.
