The Barber of Seville, one of the greatest of all comic operas, was written by Rossini in 1816. It was first performed in America (in English) in 1819. The opera, remarkable for its abundance of sparkling melodies, has a simple plot and a happy ending. Reflecting the spirit of the opera and its characters, the overture is delightful, brilliant and exciting.
