This arrangement is taken from the original done for the EAST TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY Trombone Choir, Dr. Neill Humfeld, director. Neill had asked for something “bluegrass” and the number grew around Cotton Eye’ Joe. Other folk tunes touched upon are Chicken Reel Turkey in the Straw and Devil’s Dream. The easy goin’ two-beat pulse with sudden outbursts of swing and a counterpoint that persists throughout in the unfoldment of this musical offering will hold the attention of both performers and listeners.
