Pastorale for Strings

Description

The Pastorale for Strings was composed for and dedicated to conductor Miguel Perez. It is a tranquil work that is somber and emotional. In the traditional instrumental Pastorale the “pastoral” life style of Shepherds was evoked by such features as drone basses (a pedal point), dotted rhythms in a moderate tempo and flowing melodic lines. These features are present in the Pastorale for Strings. The Pastorle is intended to be an introduction to polytonality for younger musicians and audiences alike.
