The Four Dutch Hymns were first performed in Elburg, The Netherlands – Sunday July 16,1989 by the Texas Symphonic Band, under the direction of the composer/arranger Leroy Osmon, for a Dutch Reformed Calvinist service.
The hymns may be performed in a variety of combinations: full band or full orchestra, woodwind choir, brass choir, clarinet choir, saxophone ensemble or select woodwind/brass combinations. The parts are grouped as follows:

Group I – Flute, Violin I, 1st Bb Clarinet, Soprano Saxophone, 1st Bb Trumpet
Group II – Oboe, Violin If, 2nd Bb Clarinet, 2nd Bb Trumpet (3rd Bb Trumpet alternates between groups II and III)
Group III – 3rd Bb Clarinet, Viola, Also Saxophone, Horn, Trombone (3rd Bb Trumpet alternates between groups II and III)
Group IV – Bassoon, Cello, Bass Clarinet, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Horn
Group V – Tuba, String Bass, Eb Contra Bass Clarinet, Baritone Saxophone (when there are only four parts, groups IV and V are cross-voiced)
