Description
This entertaining little piece is designed for “tyro” (inexperienced) string players. It contains several valuable teaching techniques including dotted rhythms, major and minor finger patterns, string crossings and fingering combinations which encourage correct left hand shape. For bowing development, the piece emphasizes bow division and placement, on-string and off-string styles, accents and dynamics. Pizzicato techniques are also used. Students have the opportunity to work with both major and minor tonalities.
A Violin II part is included in the set, but is not shown in the score. This part is identical to the viola part and should only be used in the absence of violas.
The percussion parts are not necessary for performance, but could add a nice flavor to the piece. The bongos and claves could easily be played by string players.
