Brazilian Polka

Description

While the title states this work is a “Polka”, the reality is that it is a bright, energetic, tuneful Samba! The title only is an attempt at clever-musical-humor. Featuring the 1st Violins, the work begins with a brief introduction by the 1st Violins plaving “Spiccato”. (Notes to be played with the point of the bow.) Now the orchestra appears, with the 1st Violins stating the melody “Saltando”. (Skipping the bow on the strings.) The introduction and melodic-line is heard again. this time with a added obbligato – this leads to a new and robust full-ensemble strain, and another statement of the original melody in a new key. After a brief “Da-Capo”, the work ends energetically with a unison “tutti”: Enjoy!!
