Description
The Martele March is the second in a series of Etudes for String Orchestra that is dedicated to young string players and their development as ensemble players whether that be the string quartet or the symphony orchestra.
With that goal in mind, we must emphasize that the first and most important requirement of fine ensemble playing is the disciplined use of the bow. The Martelé March concentrates on the basic martele stroke in which the bow is sharply drawn and abruptly stopped using as much of the bow as the tempo will allow. The bows will have been drawn at the same speed resulting in good ensemble.
The piece is written in a contemporary style and played in a strict march tempo.
