Description
Though widely known throughout the southern mountains, the origin ot this charming piece Is uncertain. It is believed to have existed for some time, yet there is no known printed version until the 1930’s.
The strings sing the tune with colorful figures in the woodwinds that typify contemporary country music and rhythmic punctuation in the brass and percussion. A full blown hoedown develops and once again a last turn at the melody for the strings. The coda has the violins showing off with a string crossing pattern, a glissando hanging in midair and finally two surprise chords.
