Description
This baroque fugue should be played with a detached bow stroke. Care should be given to each voice to ensure that the fugal theme is always heard. All violins and cellos have passages with limited third position work. Fingerings have been added to provide a reference for the Director. The symbol “-1” is a backward first finger extension. Optional third violin and piano parts have been included.
Leonardo Leo is an important Italian composer during the early 1700’s. He is most noted for his music for the theater. In all, he wrote some 50 operas. Concerto in D Major for four violins is one of a very few instrumental works written by Leonardo.
