Suppe was the father of the Austrian operetta which Strauss was Jr. to reach its summit with Johann The LIGHT CAVALRY OVERTURE is martial music which begins with strong chords and horn calls. It contains vigorous and sprightly tunes for the violins and the celebrated theme by which the overture is always remembered (often quoted to describe the gallop of the cavalry).
