5 Petit Etudes
from the Music of William Grant Still
Arranged by Leroy Osmon
Euphonium Solo
$10.00
Description
The 5 Petit Etudes are a combination original etudes inspired by the music of the great American composer William Grant Still, variations of his music, and direct quotes. The work was composed for Jeffery B. “Jeff” Smith, principal trumpet with the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra in Xalapa, Veracruz. The work is dedicated to Jeff Smith and was composed for a proposed concert tour in the Summer of 2018.
The 5 Petit Etudes are designed with three concepts in mind. First, they are etudes that can be used as an educational tool. The work is not an exceptionally demanding composition and could be used with advanced public school students as well as university-level students. Secondly, they are “concert” etudes that would fit well on a trumpet recital. Last, and perhaps the most important concept from composer Leroy Osmon, is that they may bring attention to the music of the great American (and sadly neglected and underperformed) composer, William Grant Still (1895-1978).
