Woodwind Choir

$40.00

Description

This multi-movement work utilizes the diverse colors of the woodwind choir to depict scenes I observed during my days as an undergrad at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. The snow fights and games that inspired the 1st movement are no longer possible to experience as the “”field”” referenced in the 1st movement title is now the site of the beautiful Talkington Dorm off of 19th Street. In the late 80’s, I crossed that field on my way to school at least twice a day to get to my 2 story “”white house”” that I shared with 3 to 5 other friends on 20th Street. (Have you ever seen Animal House?) Having grown up in semi-tropical Corpus Christi, Texas, located on The Gulf of Mexico, snow and all that comes with frozen “”precip”” was mind blowing, to say the least; it was also beautiful and inspirational! (Until I had to drive in it!) The Ivrical 2nd movement recalls the serene and somewhat melancholy spirit when most left for home during the holidays. The third movement is a daydreaming episode with the following ingredients: a frozen lake, Olympic dreams, and a flaxen-haired young lady!

Instrumentation: Piccolo, 2 Flutes, Oboe, Bassoon, 3 Bb Clarinets, Bass Clarinet, 2 Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone
