Celebration and Lament

"In the Warming Sun"

Description

The composition is rhapsodic in style and the title clearly articulates the sentiment behind the two sections.

This work is a celebration of life and all the beauty it encompasses. The original working’ title for this composition was to be in Spanish – ‘un arbusto que crece cerca de la costa’ (a bush grows near the ocean), however, I changed the title to the Italian ‘Trenodia’. This seemed at the time to better express my musical ideas, however, after completing the work I felt it did not completely express the emotion and spirit of the composer’s thoughts. This opus was a true labor of love and an honest treatment of the composer’s feelings of both sadness and joy. The sadness, of course from the loss and the joy in the pleasure of knowing such an amazing person.

Composed for solo flute, viola, piano, harp and string orchestra. The harp and piano may be performed by one person if an electronic keyboard is used for the harp.
