Description

Cathedral Psalms was written for ceremonies honoring the birthday of the United States Marine Corps and was premiered at the Washington National Cathedral, Washington, DC. Originally the work was scored for small brass ensemble. Later the material was revised and expanded for full band and titled Music for a Cathedral. This final version, I felt, should return to its origins but with the added experience of its cousin, Music for a Cathedral, and having the materials adapted and-where necessary-changed so as to use the special requirements and sonorities of a full special choir.

The three movements may be used separately or as a whole. Materials introduced in the first movement are developed in the third but all three movements can stand on their own.

Instrumentation: 3 Bb Trumpets, 4 Horns in F, 3 Trombones, 2 Euphoniums, Tuba, Timpani & Percussion
