Description
The Concerto for Flute, Winds and Percussion was composed in 2006 between September and December and is scored for orchestra winds and percussion.
This work marks several years of collaboration between the composer Leroy Osmon, soloist Sydney Carlson and conductor Stan Mauldin. The Concerto is in standard three movement form; I. Intrepidamente, II. Largo, Ill. Allegro Motto. The orchestration is somewhat like the Concerto for Flute, Winds and Percussion, however, in this concerto the second movement calls for two conductors.
The Concerto was commissioned by Dr. Sydney Carlson (Houston, Texas) and the Clear Brook Wind Symphony. It is part of an on-going commission project by the Clear Brook Wind Symphony and conductor Stan Mauldin. The first performance, conducted by Stan Mauldin with Dr. Carlson as soloist, was on March 29, 2007 at Clear Brook High School Auditorium. The Concerto for Flute, Winds and Percussion is dedicated to Sydney Carlson.
