James Andrews

James William Andrews was an American composer, arranger and music educator.

Andrews spent most of his early years in Vega, Texas.  He earned a BME degree in 1968 and an MA degree in 1975, both from West Texas State University.  He was music director in the schools of Bovina, Texas, from 1968 to 1970 and assistant band director in the schools of Friona, Texas, from 1970 to 1975 and was staff composer and arranger with the Alice, Texas, Independent School District starting in 1975.

Although a music educator by profession, he was active as a composer and has received numerous commissions and awards for his works.  He was also an adjudicator and clinician. When he retired from teaching he worked at Jent’s House of Music and Tarpley Music.
