Brian Beck

Mr. Beck is free-lance composer, arranger, clinician, and educator for both instrumental and vocal ensembles. His works and groups have been featured in TMEA Honor Band concerts, Midwest performances, Western International Band clinics, UIL state marching contests, compact disc recordings, and choral concerts. His works have garnered the awards of “Reviewer’s Choice” from The Instrumentalist, J. W. Pepper, “Best New Concert Band Music” by Tom Lee Music, and have been featured in the educational series Teaching Music Through Performance In Band, (GIA Publications). Others have been added to many prescribed music lists including the Birch Bay Band Title List, Florida Bandmasters Association Concert Music Committee, Ohio Band List, Midwest International Concert Catalogue, Texas UIL Prescribed Music and Sight Reading List, and Washington Western International Clinic Program.

Brian Beck has served as Director of Bands at Faubion Middle School in McKinney, Texas. Before that, he was the conductor of Byrd Middle School’s Symphonic I Band in Duncanville, Texas, where he was nominated as “2008-09 Teacher of the Year.” Mr. Beck is a 1994 alumnus of the Duncanville Band Program and was a member of the TMEA All-State Band. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Houston.

Bands under his direction have received consistent Superior ratings at UIL concert and sight-reading contests as well as “Best in Class” and “Grand Champion” awards at other contests and festivals. The Faubion Symphonic I Band was selected to perform at The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, IL, in 2012. Both the Faubion and Byrd bands have been finalists in the TMEA State Honor Band competition. While a Byrd, the Duncanville High School Wind Ensemble was also selected as the 5A Texas State Honor Band for a historic third time. This was the first time in TMEA’s history that a 5A high school and its feeder CCC school won in back-to-back competitions simultaneously.

The Faubion Symphonic I Band finished 8th place in 2011 and First Runner-Up in 2013, and Byrd Middle School was selected as Texas State Honor Band a record three times (1982, 2004, and 2008). The Faubion Full Orchestra (combined band and orchestra) finished first in the TMEA State competition in 2014, having the honor of performing at the TMEA State Convention in San Antonio in 2015 and was chosen as the only 2014 national winner of the “Mark of Excellence” awards competition sponsored by The Foundation For Music Education.

Mr. Beck is a member of the Association of Songwriters, Composers, Arrangers, and Publishers (ASCAP), and his works have been published/recorded by Southern Music Publications, Anthem Publications, Alfred Publishing, Mark Custom Records, and DPB Audio. Other affiliations have included Texas Music Adjudicators Association; Texas Music Educators Association, where he has served as the Region XX Middle School Band Chairman, Texas Bandmasters Association; and Phi Beta Mu, where he was voted “Young Bandmaster of the Year” in 2009.
Mr. Beck lives in McKinney with his wife, Dr. Kelley Beck, a clinical neuropsychologist in Baylor Hospital System, and their two sons, James and Dylan.
